A WAIPA Panel Discusses the BRICs and Other Emerging Economies at AIM Dubai.
Other News, 10/06/2011Held under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade, from May 10 through 12, 2011 , the AIM event was intitutionally sponsored by WAIPA and by UNCTAD. The event opened on a high note, with the participation of his highness the Crown Prince of Dubai. WAIPA President and Chairman of ApexBrasil, Alessandro Teixeira, along with Gita Wirjawan, Chairman of BKPM, of Indonesia, discussed along with representatives! from CIS Russia and India the emergence of the BRIC economies and the next 11 economies. They draw distinctions about the sound fiscal positions of their respective countries as compared to budgetary difficulties now experienced in mature economies. The positive effects of solid fiscal postions in FDI attraction was highlighted. WAIPA President underlined the importance that governments promote non-speculative, productive and long-term investments from abroad - such as FDI - and within countries. The pre-event to the AIM was also the responsibility of WAIPA. On May 9, a day-long Working Session was put together to address, among other themes, the role of strategic intelligence in an IPA, the importance of social media and the use of the internet to generate leads to be followed up on individually in a sales-like manner. The WAIPA AIM Pre-Event was attended by Investment Promotion officers from countries as far apart as Malaysia, Brazil & Canada! ; Australia, Armenia & Cyprus.
